This generic kit includes the assembly of two parts: the 'Neck Turner Body' (which is the central body of the lathe that also includes the lathe)and the 'Power Adapter with Handle' (which is the ergonomic knob to guide the shell holder during turning). The steel pilots and brass holders must be purchased separately. The K&M collar lathe has a truly unique cutting edge adjustment mechanism. This mechanism allows the one who reloads to always have maximum precision in adjusting the lathe. The design of this new tool involves the use of very short pitch screws, so much so that for every rotation of the adjustment nut, the screw pushes the cutting edge forward by only 0.002". To give a reference and to be able to make a comparison, micrometer tools possess a full scale of 0.025" for each rotation. There are markings on the body of the Neck Turner around the circumference of the cutting edge adjustment screw hole. These notches are arranged radially every 30 degrees and, as a visual reference, there is a punch mark on the face of the adjustment nut. As a result, whenever the nut is rotated one increment, then the cutter advances 0.0002". To avoid and counteract the formation of the so-called 'donut,' the collet should be rotated so that the end of the cutter is slightly inside the shoulder. The angle of the cutting edge will accommodate all possible angles of the shoulder allowing you to go and cut just inside the collar/shoulder joint. You can go and drive the shell with the 'Power Adapter' and the appropriate 'Shell Holder'. This will allow you to do the whole operation manually through the sleeve, or you can safely remove the 'Power Adapter' and use the whole thing with a quarter-inch hex root screwdriver.
